What Do the
Ratings Mean? |
Antero Hot Springs
This newly renovated, all-season, hot springs resort is the epitome of
"Colorado" and "Hot Springs," from the wonderful close-in mountain views to
its two authentic log cabins. Construction of two new hot springs pools at
the door of these cabins is scheduled for completion in mid-September 2004.
The hot springs themselves are high temperature (134º
F) and are said to be "mineral rich" and have no sulfur smell.
Plenty of photos to show the environs of each cabin and their cheery-looking
interiors. Some historical information is promised soon.

Cottonwood Hot Springs &
Spa One of
the nicer and funkier hot springs in Colorado, which features a number of accommodation
alternatives, including a tipi. Clothing is optional after dark from
September to May. The resort's library provides a range of personal growth
and recovery literature, as well as the usual escapist fiction titles.
From the owner: "In keeping with
the innate harmony of this land at this ancient, sacred site, we come
together out of a shared vision, for the purpose of creating a holistic
and spiritual center and a sustainable community. A haven for healing,
growth, rejuvenation and restoration of the body/mind/spirit. Supportive
of individual, group as well as planetary rejuvenation and
restoration." The site is
well illustrated and provides a complete description of services.

Strawberry Park Hot Springs What
used to be a relatively undeveloped hot spring backwater with virtually no
amenities is now a well-developed, but still funky resort. The web site
includes a huge slide show, detailed descriptions of lodging alternatives
(from camping to cabins), and useful information on location, access,
admission, pool rules, and "what to bring." Massage and
Watsu are available on site. An online reservation form is provided.

Mt. Princeton Hot Springs While
it's a fairly extensive resort, Mt. Princeton Hot Springs still qualifies as "out of
the way" because of its location deep in a valley at the base of the Collegiate
Peaks, 13 miles south of Buena Vista, Colorado (pronounced more like Boona Vista
to those in the know.) The pics on this site are great, and the layout has been recently
upgraded.

Valley View Hot Springs High
in the Sangre de Cristos, overlooking the San Juan Valley, this hot spring provides a
"clothing optional," members club experience. The Web site is light on scenics,
but has some nice pen and ink drawings for relief. It provides all the information you'll
need (and more) to decide whether you want to "take the plunge."
